BRODVEJUS PUBAS - Mesiniu 4, Vilnius

Still, after we-know-not-how-many-years the default ‘where shall we go now’ option for many, Brodvėjus boasts two levels of mayhem and fun. In general terms, downstairs is for dancing while upstairs is for drinking (especially if you want to sit down). The music remains much as it has for over a decade: a mix of just about everything. There are live bands some evenings too. Leave your pretensions at the door and you will love it.

COCAINN - Gedimino 2a, Vilnius

Occupying three main rooms catering to different tastes, there’s a lounge for cocktails and the dreaded Tuborg, a quiet room where guests can eat from a menu of gourmet dishes and a good old-fashioned night club with dancing girls dressed as nurses among other things. There’s also a place for smoking cigars. The perfect introduction to Eastern European nightlife.

DISCO 311 BUDDHA - Vilniaus 33, Vilnius

No matter how hard we try, it’s impossible to forget that this used to be where you came when your telephone didn’t work. Housed inside the former Lietuvos Telekomas building, it’s now a sort of club for the cocktail set. Cutting edge it isn’t. Mainstream, harmless and squeaky clean it most certainly is.

PABO LATINO - Traku 3, Vilnius

Featuring three halls and two bars of sheer class, Pabo Latino is an oasis of Latin culture in a country where human warmth is far from overwhelming. A tough but fair door policy keeps the low life out, meaning what you get inside is a well behaved bunch of good-looking people out for a fun evening in pleasant albeit sometimes frenetic surroundings. The music is both live and courtesy of DJs, the cocktail menu is massive and if you don't know how to dance Latin style, they even organise lessons for anyone willing to give it a go.

SALENTO DISCOPUB - Didzioji 28, Vilnius

Nights of foam in which the ladies get all wet and lathery, cheap offers on cocktails, deckchairs, large television screens and a predominantly young crowd are the things to expect inside this heaving Old Town favourite. The brainchild of Italian Piero, the idea is to bring an Italian and Spanish pub-disco feel to the Lithuanian capital. Each night promises a different theme, with music focusing on pop and old favourites. Magic.

TARANTINO - Traku 2, Vilnius

A sleek underground homage to a man famous for appropriating other people’s ideas gives some indication of what’s to be found inside. Complete with film posters galore, experimental furniture and a crowd of sophisticated youngsters agog at the sounds emanating from the wide range of DJs who do their thing here, it may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but for those still at university and those still struggling to come to terms with their age, Tarantino does to be fair offer a perfectly good night of fun and frolicking.

Nice pub in the heart of the city, mostly for young students and erasmus. There is a big dancing floor and a cool space upstairs, good prices for drinks, crowded mostly only in the weekends. Theme parties and cool atmosphere
